A rectangular field is 80 feet long and 60 feet wide. How much fencing is needed to enclose it?
Perimeter is twice the length plus twice the width: 2(80) + 2(60) = 160 + 120 = 280 feet.
What is the perimeter of a rectangle 9 units long and 4 units wide?
Perimeter is 2(length) + 2(width): 2(9) + 2(4) = 18 + 8 = 26 units.
What is the area of a trapezoid with parallel sides of 6 and 10 and a height of 4?
Area is the average of the parallel sides times the height: ((6 + 10) ÷ 2) × 4 = 8 × 4 = 32.
The length of a rectangle is twice its width and the perimeter is 48. What is the width?
With width w, the perimeter is 2w + 2(2w) = 6w. Setting 6w = 48 gives w = 8.
What is the volume of a cylinder with a radius of 2 and a height of 5, in terms of pi?
Volume equals pi × radius squared × height: pi × 4 × 5 = 20 pi.

Why the figure questions are worth their own deck
A figure question is read differently from a written one. You are not turning a sentence into arithmetic — you are reading values off a picture and remembering which formula owns them. Either the formula comes to mind when you see the shape, or it does not, and that is exactly what a flash card is for.
Answer before you turn the card. Reading the question and the explanation together feels productive and teaches very little.
These are not the drawing-based subtests. Mechanical Comprehension and Assembling Objects are built almost entirely around pictures, and neither is part of the AFQT, so neither is on this site.
